We decided we wanted to do something that would get more people doing the first action in our book Change the World for a Fiver: Decline plastic bags.
Back in the dark days before 2007, the fashion elite wouldn't be seen dead pulling out a pocket full of old carrier bags at the till.
Every person in the country was using an average of 167 plastic bags every year.
We asked the UK's leading accessories designer Anya Hindmarch to make us a beautiful bag, our friends at Antidote to design a beautiful logo, and got Sainsbury's to sell them in their supermarkets. They were some unlikely bed-fellows - but it seemed to work.
People queued for up to 5 hours in the snow to bag their own shopper.
Kylie Minogue, Mischa Barton, Sienna Miller, Kierra Knightly and Lily Allen were among the celebs that used and loved them.
All the supermarkets have cut down the number of plastic bags they give away, but stats from Sainsbury's tell us they've cut the number of bags they've given out by 58% in the last two years, given out 312 million fewer bags in 2008 than in 2007 and saved 13,200 tonnes of virgin plastic in the last two years.
You can still get your own fake on eBay for £400.
