Encourage someone every day

Here's a very straightforward action that overlaps with many on the action list. However, I haven't seen it specifically. Often when we are feeling a little miserable or down, it's good to reach out to someone else we know and send a message of encouragement. With email, facebook, tex and so many ways of communicating, it's easy to do. I make an attempt to do it on most days and it's amazing how people's lives are touched by such a simple act of kindness - just be genuine with the message!! Best wishes.

Reach One! Reach All!

I share a dream that I am working to attain. I have self-published a book, Letter 2 a Teen - Becoming the Best I can Be. It is a user-friendly book for teenagers, which has been purchased by parents, teachers and youth workers. It has plenty of tips and ideas from my 35 years working with teenagers as a sports coach, teacher, School Principal and Mentor Program Coordinator and Trainer. It's an eBook as well and I am donating $1,00 for each book sold to charities that support children. My passion is to encourage teenagers to reach their potential, but I can't do this on my own, nor do I have the funds, unfortunately to give the books away, much as I would like to. My action plan is to get the word out to the wider world and see if anyone else can help me achieve this dream. I am seriously concerned that this generation of young people contains way too many who are losing their way for a variety of reasons and I don't think I am exaggerating. More information: www.yess.co.nz Best wishes. Robin Cox

SIGN LANGUAGE

I think it would be worthwhile for all of us to learn sign language and have every child learn it at school as a compulsory class. There are times when you are sitting at the traffic lights and you want to communicate with the person in the car next to you, whether its to tell them that they need to put their lights on, or one of their taillights isn't working..... It's something that I have thought about for a long while now.... What do other people think?

Action!

Buy Handmade. There's no sweat shops involved. Everything is of a better quality (probably something to do with them not being made by 6 year olds in horrible sweaty factories, who pump out 100's of items a day). The arty people who make your goods just love to make them, because craft in cheaper than therapy. PLus you get that warm fuzzy feeling of buying something which has been made with love, and directly supports another person to continue to do what they love. It's feel good shopping!
You can get fab handmade everything from Etsy.

learning a foreign language

I've been writing to newspapers today about the language Esperanto. Esperanto is a language easier to learn than national languages and would enable to communicate internationally on equal terms. Everyone has to make a little effort. Now it is very unfair that people who are born in an English speaking country don't need to make the effort of learning foreign languages but other people do if they want to be able to communicate with many people

I don't smoke

perhaps you could encourage non-smokers to talk to smokers who discard their butts inappropriately about changing their behaviour? Or encourage non-smokers and smokers alike to pick up butts when they see them?

lazy people

I live in a small town in Nz and am disgusted at the utter laziness of people from smaller communities. They make excuses and don't hesitate to throw recycable things in the rubbish as its the easier way out. Out town has only started its own recycle centre in the last 3 years and people still take the easy way. I think the govt needs to target smaller communities as they are often forgotten about and they need to change the mind-set of old habits . eg: farmers make their own land-fills,

The world needs good news

Hi, my name is Barbara, I moved to NZ with my two sons last year, after almost 2 decades of 'expat-life' in Asia. I am a Life Coach, NLP Practitioner and Hypnotherapist and am in the process of setting up my business here in the South Island. My immigration status is 'critical' , my work visa will run out next week, our support payment from ex-husband/father has been reduced etc etc.. in the midst of all the stuff that has been building up over the last weeks I have donated money, I have introduced my bi-monthly free newsletters, I have recently offered free relaxation/meditation sessions in my newly created practise/workshop and most of the things that you mention in the 'actions' log have been with me (and my sons) for a long time. It is fantastic to have found you and if I can be of any contribution, please let me know. www.walkyourtalkinternational.co.nz , Cheers, LoveΧ, Barbara

More than meets the eye

You can't take this action at face value as buying locally does not necessarily have the smallest carbon footprint. When vegetables are grown indoors or animals are in barns and grain fed locally, the carbon footprint is often higher than flying the product in from a country that grows it outdoors in a natural environment. This doesn't mean you shouldn't buy locally, just that enviro friendly food buying should take into account more than just food miles. cool page :)

i just saw this "we are what we do" thing on the breakfast show, and i think its awesome that in a world like we have today when bombings, shootings and things like unauthorised whaling have a regular appearance on the news, that there are still people trying to make a difference in the world. i realise i sound like a raving hippie, but i think these organisations are an amazing idea and by the ammount of actions completed i'd say they are definitely having an effect! congtrats guys, you're doing an awesome job! x
