We Are What We Do's Privacy Policy is designed to assist you in understanding how we collect, use and safeguard the personal information you provide to us, and to assist you in making informed decisions when using our site. Whenever you provide such personal information to us, we will treat that information in accordance with this policy.
WAWWD will act in accordance with the requirements of the Privacy Act 1988 and the National Privacy Principles set out in that Act for all our activities involving the collection, use, disclosure and handling of personal information.

1 What information do we collect?
WAWWD only collects personal information when it is necessary to do so to perform its functions and activities. This means that we collect information for purposes relevant to:
• allowing you to use features of the WAWWD website, such as the Personal Action Tracker;
• processing your registration with WAWWD;
• identification of the author of an article or comment;
• internal management;
• the provision of our products and services; and
• communicating with our supporters.
2 How do we collect information?
WAWWD will only collect personal information by lawful and fair means and not in an intrusive manner. Where it is reasonable and practicable to do so, we will endeavour to collect personal information about you directly from you.
We collect information on our users in two ways: through website usage data including cookies (see below), and through registration. Registration allows you to use features of the WAWWD website, such as the Personal Action Tracker.
When you register on the WAWWD site you knowingly choose to provide WAWWD with personal information. The minimum information we need to register a user is their name, email address and a username of their choosing. Any further details you choose to supply about yourself and your company when you register are provided at your own discretion. Please note that if you wish to purchase a product from WAWWD, we may need to collect your credit card details.
You generally have no obligation to provide personal information to us, however, if you choose not to provide information we need, you may not be able to access features of our website, or we may not be able to provide you with the service or product that you have requested.
3 Use and Disclosure
WAWWD will only disclose your personal information if you consent to such disclosure, or if such disclosure is permitted under the Privacy Act.
If you submit articles to the site or take part in discussions, we may retain the content of your articles, posts and related responses. You may be identified as the author of any content you supply to the WAWWD website by reference to the details you have chosen to make available to the public upon registration, and subsequently. At no time will we sell your personal information to any third party organisation. Many organisations collect personal information in order to sell on to partners and affiliates, but WAWWD has no intention of doing this. We may, however, provide your information to third parties engaged by WAWWD to perform functions on its behalf, such as processing credit card information, order fulfilment, mailouts, shipping, debt collection, marketing, research and advertising.
We reserve the right to disclose your personal information to comply with applicable laws and lawful government requests, and to operate our systems properly when we, in good faith, believe that the law requires it or for the protection of our legal rights or those of our users.
3.1 Email updates
Users can opt-in to receive regular email updates from WAWWD when they register for the WAWWD website, or when they update their personal information.
Users can also opt to receive email updates without registering on the WAWWD website by providing their email address only. WAWWD will retain the email address until they receive a request to unsubscribe sent from the same email address.
WAWWD email updates will be sent from time to time, and additional emails about WAWWD services may also be sent occasionally if you subscribe to them.
Only users who have opted in will receive email updates from WAWWD. We will never intentionally solicit or proactively send promotional emails to users unless they have explicitly asked to receive this type of communication.
Any user can opt out of communications at any time by updating their personal profile, by following the Unsubscribe instructions published in every WAWWD email update, or by sending an email with 'UNSUBSCRIBE' in the subject line to changetheworld@wearewhatwedo.org.au.
4 Cookies and Website usage data
Our website utilises 'cookies' and Web server logs to collect information about how the site is used. Cookies allow Web servers to recognise the computer used to access a website. Cookies are small pieces of data that are stored by a user web browser software on the user hard drive. Cookies provide non-personal statistical information about visits to pages on the site, which may include the duration of individual page views, paths taken by visitors through the site, the websites visited just before and just after our website, and other general information. This information is collected on an aggregate basis. None of this information is associated with you as an individual.

5 Security
Should you send personal information, such as credit card details, to the WAWWD website via the appropriate forms and interfaces, the information will be transmitted via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, which is the industry standard method for protecting web communications. The SSL security protocol provides data encryption, server authentication, message integrity and client authentication to ensure that not only is the data encrypted before we receive it, but the information can only be understood by authorised computers.
Other email that you send to us may not be secure unless we advise you that security measures will be in place prior to your transmitting the information. For that reason, we ask that you do not send personal information to us through an unsecured email. Please use the appropriate forms and interfaces provided for such circumstances.
Periodically, our business practices are reviewed for compliance with industry standard policies and procedures governing the security and confidentiality of our information.
6 Transborder data flows
WAWWD's credit card system is run through the UK. This means that when you make a purchase from us using your credit card, your personal information relating to that transaction will be disclosed to WAWWD and to the relevant credit provider in the UK. WAWWD in the UK has a privacy policy substantially similar to what is contained in this privacy policy and will therefore not hold, use or disclose your personal information inconsistently with this privacy policy. By electing to purchase a book from WAWWD using your credit card, you are consenting to disclosure of your personal information required for that transaction to our UK office and to the relevant credit provider in the UK.
WAWWD will not otherwise transfer your personal information outside Australia unless the you consent to such a transfer and we are satisfied that the recipient of the personal information will uphold principles for the handling of personal information which are similar to the National Privacy Principles.
7 Data Accuracy and Access
We also allow users to update their personal information and newsletter subscription status at any time.
