Do something for nothing

This action has been done 16,767 times which means there are 0 things done for something.

Doing something for someone else is never really for nothing. You might not get paid but you get to feel smug. What could you do for someone else?

We'd like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all the brilliant people who have given their time and talent to We Are What We Do over the years for nothing.

    Simple yet effective

The last time my sister in law visited us she commented on how much her car needs washing, as she is 4 months pregnant we washed it for her :) we had a laugh doing it and splashing about like kiddies and she got a shiny car without spending a penny! 04 July 2010, 18:11

    Spontaneity

I was walking home from the bus the other day when I noticed an elderly couple struggling to load their car with an old television. They seemed shocked to get help from a young passer by but by god they were grateful. Nice to know some of the more senior community can be nice instead of distancing themselves from my generation or being rude in the supermarket. 15 March 2010, 00:51

    Whitefriars' Haiti Earthquake Appeal

We helped the School Council to run a Bring and Buy Sale on Friday afternnon. The whole school brought in cakes, donations for a raffle and nearly new books, games and toys. We want to help the people in Haiti after the horrific earthquake, last week. 23 January 2010, 13:56

I am what I do - in RUMANIA

    Hi everyone!

My name is Jolanta. I'm from Austria and since 2 months I'm working in Rumania/ Bucharest. I'm trying to find an NPO here working with homeless kids. The web is full with NPO but maybe someone allready works for one or knows one and can give me an advice. I don't want to give money only but also spend (free) time working with that organization.
I hope someone can help me!
    Thanks!

I saved a dog in Wales!

I saw a dog in the road and it looked poorly. I asked my mum if we could take the dog home and look after it but she said no. I asked my dad also.

The dog was picked up by the rspca becuase my dad ranged them.

i felt good and my mum bought me some ice cream. if i had a dog i would call it moses.

    Use Half

My mom always puts a small piece of tape over half of the openings at the top of a can of Ajax (Comet, etc., you know: powdered abrasive cleansers). Each shake of the can dispenses half of what she would otherwise get ... and half is more than enough. Do the same and you'll reduce the amount of toxic stuff going down your drain, too! 02 February 2009, 17:38

    litter (any shape any material)

Every morning as I walk to work I carry a handle paper bag and tongs and pick up the litter in the gutter and on the lawn strip between sidewalk and street and sidewalk to keep it from washing in the storm sewers and in rivers or lakes. Some of my finds are paper cups, napkins, empty bottles of every kind from milk cartons, water, softdrink and hard liqueur bottles, clothes, carptet pieces, towels, cigarette lighters, batteries, diapers, platic bags/baggies, you name it, I have seen it.

I challenge walkers, joggers, runners to do the same. You show your respect for the earth and clean the environment a piece of litter at a time.

Remember one piece of litter leads to another, litter attracks litter.

    What a great thing!!

I just stumbled on this website tonight - and what an awesome site! The organization that I started, www.elphos.org - is all about doing something for nothing - but no one seems to understand that - at least when I try explaining it to them.

To all of you who have done this action - good for you - you are making our world a better place!!

    dog walking

At my local RSPCA cats and dogs home I voluntarily walked dogs with my friend for 3 months for my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. I am now much more aware of animal cruelty and have learnt tons about dogs and what the RSPCA is doing to help. I was not confident about controling and communicating with the dogs but within weeks i was a pro. The highlight was running through a feild on a rainy day with a fantastic border collie called Ronnie. This is so easy and fun to do.....do it

    Lost in London

On my way home last night I passed a couple looking a bit lost and flustered, on the verge of a row about which page of the map they were supposed to be looking at. So, I stopped, asked if they were ok, then walked them to the bus stop and showed them what number to wait for.

They were chuffed! They gave me a very loud Missouri thank you and I went on my way, feeling pretty good about myself and a bit smug that I could pretend to be a Londoner and get away with.
